Finger My Fern

A multimedia exhibition exploring inter-species love affairs in a high-tech society

Words By Erika Clugston

Date: 12.01.19 – 03.02.19
Venue: Salon Gallery Berlin
Opening: January 11th, 18:00 – 21:00

As you may guess from the title, Finger My Fern is not your typical exhibition. With drawings, sculptures, and installations, it imagines the possibility of love affairs between humans and non-human organisms. What sort of desires do we have for the natural world and how do we engage with these fantasies? What might they look like?

The show is presented by EVBG, a platform by Marie Sophie Beckmann and Julie Gaspard. The duo are bold in their curatorial explorations — delving into curious and conceptual realms of art and contemporary life. They write of this exhibition’s concept:

As our world becomes increasingly high-tech, with ever cleaner and smoother surfaces, we celebrate artificiality while ruining our environment en passant. The more estranged we feel from nature, the more we idealize it. We need to reconnect. And is there a better way to do so than through the sensual? Because in the end, we are nature and nature is us, and we’re all dirty.

Finger My Fern will feature artists Sophie Erlund, Asana Fujikawa, Andrea Éva Győri, Lena Anouk Philipp, Simon Speiser, Beth Stephens & Annie Sprinkle, and Urara Tsuchiya. We’re not entirely sure what to expect, but we’re down to get dirty.
