Odd City Episode Three: Cooking the Books in Kreuzberg

A literary oasis with a proper English roast

In the third episode of Odd City Berlin, we visit a little-known sanctuary for English-speaking expats living in Berlin; a home away from home where visitors can curl up with a glass of wine and a good book, tell humiliating stories to a room full of strangers and gorge on homemade comfort food.

We meet owner Sophie Raphaeline, a native Brit who serves traditional English roast dinners at the Kreuzberg bookshop she opened 17 years ago. Another Country boasts tens of thousands of English-language books, monthly story telling sessions and a unique atmosphere for a second-hand bookshop, and with Sophie we explore gentrification, expat living and a need for cultural spaces in large cities.

Odd City is a collaborative series by filmmaker James McBreen and his production company Overland Originals; Grover, a platform supporting creatives; and LOLA Magazine.
