You know what sometimes feels like a boys club? The whole damn world, that’s what. Sure, things are getting better, but a lot of places and spaces are still dominated by [mainly straight] men. Comedy is no different, and while the number of womxn and queer comedians is always on the rise, it’s still a pretty dude-heavy environment.
This is one of the reasons we love YAAAS QUEEN! – it has created a dedicated safe space for womxn and LGBTQIA+ comedians. Not only that, but it’s also open mic format, meaning that if you want to try your hand at stand-up, this is a good place for it. If you’re a more experienced comedian, it’s also a nice spot to try out new material.
The event is produced by Anja Woot, Carmen Chraim and Katnip Presents – AKA Queen Bees Comedy – so you know it is both coming from a good place, and in wonderfully safe hands. While the stage is only open to womxn and LGBTQIA+ folks, being in the audience is open to everyone, so get your ass to it and show your support.
