While 2016 is the beast that brought us Brexit, a Trump presidency and a spate of celebrity deaths that gave Game of Thrones a run for its money, the music world at last brings us a glimmer of light. With revenue up 3.2% worldwide, it looks like the industry has finally bottomed-out and consumption is on the rise again.

Digital sales make up the majority of industry revenues this year, and September saw 40 million paying subscribers on Spotify alone. The trend towards digital platforms isn’t slowing, so how can independent artists capitalise on the global step away from physical content? The most obvious way is through social media reach.

Music Pool Berlin at Warschauer Straße offers a wealth of resources through panels, consultations and workshops. On December 1st Joe Howden of Dark Arts will lead a workshop on the techniques and logic behind the social strategies of the contemporary music industry.

Darks Arts is a Social Media Management and Strategy company whose recent clients include Band of Skulls, Perfume Genius and personal favourite, Gruff Rhys. The workshop will cover the basics principles of social networks through to tools and analysis for gaining better insight into social media presence.
