South Korean surf rockers, Say Sue Me charm with bruising anthems

Words By Maggie Devlin

Date: May 9th
Venue: Schokoladen
Time: 19:00

If you haven’t woken up to the veritable buffet that is the Korean indie scene, then please let me be the first to sit you at the table. Seoul, Daegu, Ulsan, Busan: across the country exists the underground and the under-heard. Long overdue some international recognition is Busan surf rock foursome, Say Sue Me.

You are so late tonight. I couldn’t stay sober. I needed to do something, so I am quite drunk,” sings the eponymous Choi Sumi on the maudlin anthem ‘Sorry That I’m Drunk,’ evidencing the band’s nose for the melancholy. Guitar straight from the broad sands of Gwangalli beach, Say Sue Me’s intimate showing at Schokoladen is an unmissable serving of tender indie with a wash of sound that speaks of a band on a rising tide.

Say Sue Me is joined by Berlin-based darlings of indie rock’n’roll, Skiing.
