Modern life is stressful, this is a fact. More and more people are feeling the pressure of being inundated with information and permanently connected. This is why taking a breather to unplug and unwind at a gong bath is becoming increasingly popular.

A bath? You may be thinking this involves getting wet. But worry not, the bathing aspect refers to being bathed in sound only. When played well, the gong releases a powerful vibration which can feel like a sonic massage for participants. Depending on what is going on for each person at the time, emotions or memories can bubble to the surface, they can feel very uplifted, experience insights into aspects of their lives, or feel more creative and lighter afterwards. The general response is deep relaxation. If this sounds intriguing, check out the monthly Spectral Solas gong bath meditation sessions at Life Artists, a studio for conscious creativity in Prenzlauer Berg.

Spectral Solas sessions are unique in that they comprise three techniques designed to work together to increase participants’ wellbeing: a guided meditation suitable for all levels; a gong sound bath; and a cup of nutritious Ayurvedic Golden Milk. The facilitator, Ciara, is a certified meditation teacher and sound therapist who studied the gong with world-renowned gongmasters, Don Conreaux and Sheila Whittaker. She guides participants into relaxation using scientifically proven meditation and breath techniques, before transitioning into a sound bath using Paiste gongs, Himalayan singing bowls, Koshi chimes and gentle instruments. The evening closes with discussion and group bonding over a cup of nourishing Ayurvedic golden milk, made with vegan oat milk and health-promoting spices such as turmeric.

Each month’s meditation technique explores a different theme, and February’s will be focusing on manifestation through Yoga Nidra to increase the individual’s inner self-power. Previous sessions included connection techniques to cultivate compassion and empathy, breathing practices to promote vitality and group chanting to invigorate through the voice. While each session is different, what remains the same is a nurturing opportunity to dive deep. We took part in one of the early Spectral Solas gong baths ourselves and give the unique and enriching experience a strong recommendation.
