Nefertiti Goes West

A discussion and art installation investigating the cultural history of the Egyptian queen

Words By Erika Clugston

Date: 27.10.17
Venue: East of Elsewhere
Time: 19:00

The Egyptian queen, Neferneferuaten Nefertiti has a strong presence in contemporary Western culture. Film, music, and pop culture draw inspiration from the queen in various ways – just look at Beyonce’s recent pregnancy photographs.

To explore Nefertiti’s legacy in Western culture, attend the opening of Nefertiti Goes West at the new project space, East of Elsewhere. Co-director Clementine Butler-Gallie will share her extensive research on the subject in the context of an art installation on the subject. This will be the first in a series called ‘At Home’ in which new ideas and projects will be discussed over drinks and dinner. For this event, enjoy Egyptian-German cuisine and a Nefertiti cocktail while considering the queen’s presence in the West and Egypt’s request for her return. RSVP to [email protected] and there is a 10 euro suggested donation for food and refreshments.
