There are a number of amazing aspects to Homeless Veggie Dinners, and any of them on their own would be enough to warrant your custom. Firstly, you get to enjoy a three-course meal for the price of a donation. That’s a starter, a main and a dessert for no fixed price, with no minimum donation. If you can only afford €3, you pay €3, but if you can afford €20, you pay €20. If you’re asking yourself why you should pay more, here comes the second amazing aspect – your donation pays for the meal of a homeless person. This is the real purpose of the event. It’s not about getting yourself a cheap meal (though if you need one, this is OK), it’s about helping and supporting the needy in our community.
Homeless people and the underprivileged are welcomed to the event to enjoy the same three-course meal as everyone else. Often, this type of meal and experience isn’t part of their daily life. All of the patrons eat together, and this is the third amazing aspect. The homeless and those in poverty are some of the most marginalised people within our communities, often only interacting with others who are in the same circumstances. At the Homeless Veggie Dinner events, this section of the community is able to socialise and share their stories and lives with people they would not often meet. Paying for the meal of a homeless person is a great thing to do, but sharing conversation and compassion might be even greater.
The final amazing aspect is that the whole event is run by volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can speak to the team on the night to find out more. And if you know someone who would benefit from the experience, everyone is welcome to attend.
The event is alcohol-free and non-smoking (you can smoke outside).
