Berlin’s loud, proud and colourful cabaret traditions date all the way back to the 1920s, and they are being kept alive and well by the annual Berlin Burlesque Week. This year’s program is packed with tantalising shows, satirical pieces and lots (and lots) of skin.

A special highlight takes place on Friday, when Fifi Fantôme & La Viola Vixen invite you to their Cabaret of Curiositease. Here you can experience a darker side of the usually very jolly artform. They will be bringing out the freaks and misfits for a night of unusual extravagance featuring a well-curated cast of international acts, such as sword-swallowing Missa Blue and Boylesque icon Seymore Bottoms.

The Cabaret will be taking over the gorgeous old Ballhaus Berlin, a venue that has been hosting debaucherous events since 1905. All guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion, but there is no pressure if you’re just curious and wish to sneak a peek at the freaks.

In a sentence: the scintillating dark side of burlesque
