Some music festivals are perfect gems when it comes to line-ups, and Weißensee’s By the Lake didn’t disappoint. The weather couldn’t have been more polarised over the two days, but when Selvhenter took the stage on Saturday the bright blue sky went black before an unrelenting rain drenched the audience, it created the perfect ambience.
The rain didn’t dampen any enthusiasm as Efterklang presented their Opera Leaves on The Lake Radio, The Master Musicians of Jajouka – led by Bachir Attar – took over the stage to present Sufi Trance music, and the sun eventually broke through to make an appearance.
Sunday’s sun combined with the sand of the Strandbad where the second day of the festival was being held was perfect, and Cold Specks and Laid Back couldn’t have been more perfect acts to listen to in the sweltering heat. As Cavern of Anti-Matter and King Khan and The Shrines each gave the crowd an unforgettable sunset-backed climax to the weekend.
We’re already looking forward to next year. If you missed out on the 2016 By The Lake festivities, check out this pictorial round-up.
